| Dr. Derrick is a Urologist. A
Urologist is a Surgeon with special training and interest in diseases of the Genito
Urinary System. Dr. Derrick has a special
interest in the following:
- Prostate Cancer
- Benign Prostate Hyperplasia
- Reproductive Endocrinology
- Kidney Stones
- Impotence (erectile
dysfunction)
- Incontinence
- Urinary tract infections
- Urological Oncology
- Second Opinions,
particularly with patients who have Prostate Cancer.
Dr. Derrick has had a particular interest in
Cryoablation (freezing) of the prostate as a treatment for Prostate Cancer.
Cryoablation was investigational until July of 1999, at which time Medicare approved the
technique for primary treatment of Cancer of the Prostate. In December of 2000,
Medicare further approved Cryoablation as a treatment modality for those patients with
localized disease who have failed previous radiation treatment, and meet one of the
following conditions: Stage T2b or below, Gleason score <9, and PSA <8
ng/ml. Dr. Derrick entered semi retirement in 2005, working in the
office only. Other Physicians in his office are trained in
Cryoablation. His office in conjunction with Roper Hospital are
participating in a national study group which is gathering the data on
Cryo patients so that the evaluation of the treatment will be
enhanced.
